Should we stay or should we go?
Maybe it is the thrill of doing something that noone else is doing, or that noone else can do (at least in this area)....but, at any rate, that thrill has dwindled to almost nil. For the moment, at least, I am debating on whether or not to even bother carrying on. On one hand I feel obligated because, geez, someone has got to do it...and I can. On the other hand, why bother? The powers that be in this area, for whatever reason (I have opinions on the matter, but 'if you can't say something nice.....'), absolutely refuse to embrace the concept. The 'tourism' entities obviously feel threatened by what we are doing; either because we are doing a better job of promoting the area or the fact that we are promoting the area at all. And the city governments....fagiddaboutit.... well that is an atrocious story all by itself (for another time) and don't even get me started on the Chamber or SEDA. So what do we do? I am going on vacation next week and plan to take this down time to answer this question for myself. Your input is valued.

i would really love it if you stayed. i have been trying to make the local arts scene bigger to but i had some tragedies happen. but now im ready again to help in anyways i can. i am one of the featured artist on the page and i would be heartbroken if shoalsfringe was over. i am planning my first open house and would love your involvement if possible. i plan on having a lot of different local musicians play and i lot of interesting things (exspecially for this area) this will not be an ordinary art show. do it big or dont do it at all, right...?

I am relatively new to the area, and your site has been a great source of discovery. I hope you keep it up. The Shoals has so much to offer & so few take advantage of it. Thanks for doing this.

It's obvious that unless you have the capital to make it happen here, it ain't gonna happen. I'm in the same boat. I'm in process of building a network in Seattle and plan to move there where the art world is more developed. One problem you have is that someone kinda beat you to the marketplace with The Fringe magazine in Huntsville. If you do stay, you probably ought to reorganize completely. I think back to the time you, me, and Trip had our meetings and tried to cooperate. Hindsight tells me now that we should have joined ranks and focused our efforts in one direction. But, then hindsight is 20/20. Foresight is what is hard to accumulate. I haven't given up and SAN continues to grow at a slow pace. So the network is still in place. The membership is still fairly small, but readership is much larger. I noticed that the Shoals Music Magazine is kicking off. I haven't had any contact with them. Have you? Email me anytime, and feel free to use the SAN network to promote your efforts.

Tommy, thanks for the great comment! The Fringe magazine in H'Ville has yet to even go to print. They have been hyping the thing for almost a year now....complete with mock covers and loads of self promotion....but have not printed a single page. As for the Shoals Music Magazine...I don't know Evan, but have looked at what he has to offer. By strictly keeping within only the music niche, I think he has the potential to do cool things if he can raise the visual appeal of his offering to the level that a solid Muscle Shoals Music rag deserves.
Funny you suggested reorganizing! Trip and I have actually (finally) teamed up properly. We are currently developing a product that will blow the minds of anyone that may venture there! Doing anything online as per a local basis is an uphill venture indeed. By incorporating the mobile aspect of our data, we are faced with an even steeper proposition for the general user in the Shoals to comprehend. So, we are developing a truly portable product that any individual, municipality or organization can unfurl anywhere on the planet...from a franchise perspective. Watch and be amazed (I'm being funny there btw). Thanks again and take care.
